Sabah's political environment is quite different from peninsula Malaysia, with local parties sprouting.
Among the main local opposition parties who are not part of Pakatan are SAPP and STAR.
KiniTV talks to Sabah STAR chairman, controversial politician Jeffrey Kittingan.
Kittingan was detained under the ISA on suspicion of plotting to secede Sabah from Malaysia.
He has also switched parties multiple times. His past memberships include PBS, PBRS, AKAR, UPKO and PKR.
His current party STAR is calling for greater autonomy for Sabah.
